Celebrating Failure

In my studio there are 2 rules:

  1. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes

  2. Perfect does not exist

Being willing to try and fail will always lead to more success than never trying at all. Perfection is not possible but performing with sincerity and commitment in a way that you can be proud of is a type of success we can always count on. If we are busy worrying about mistakes, we cannot fully be present in the performance. Accepting that mistakes and failure are not only possible, but also inevitable can help us let go of a lot that can hold us back. Letting go of “perfect” can help us find a deeper connection with the music and with our performances. Even more than that, when we embrace the possibility of failure we can see how much failure can teach us. If we don’t make any mistakes, then we will have nothing new to learn. So anytime we do make a mistake we can take that as an opportunity to learn something new and find ways to improve. So why not go one step beyond? Let’s not just embrace our mistakes. Let’s celebrate our failures! If we tried and we failed, we now can learn more and search for more opportunities. So let’s celebrate our failures! Let’s allow ourselves to see what amazing things failure can bring us.
