Next, we will try singing the melody on the vowels of the text. This is my favorite step (and a lot of my students' least, haha). But what the heck is that? Singing the melody with the vowels of the text means singing the words but with only the vowel sounds and not any of the consonant sounds. So if you need to sing the word "sing" you take away the S and -NG sounds and only sing the vowel sound. This helps us focus on keeping a legato line and smoothly connecting each vowel and note together without allowing the consonants to mess with our mouth or tongue shape.
