6 Steps For Healthy Song Learning - Step 3: All a Buzz

Hum, buzz, or tongue trill the melody - we don't want to jump into singing just yet. We want to take our time learning the correct notes and do that with a lot of extra breath support first. I encourage students to find the right “buzz” for them. That could be a [v] or a [z] sound or it could be a lip or a tongue trill. The benefit of a buzz like these is that they help us build in plenty of breath support for the melody’s phrasing from the very beginning. We need more breath support when we create both the vibration for the voice and the vibration for the buzzing. Therefore, beginning with a buzz will help us build in the breath support needed right from the start.
